Slovenia – perfect itinerary for Jewish Travelers

Slovenia for Jewish Travelers offers fairytale scenery, Venetian-style towns, Lake Bled, stunning Julian Alps, Soca River valley, and Ljubljana Jewish Quarter.

Here is the itinerary of Slovenia we designed for our client.

Day 1: Arrival to Ljubljana

  • Arrival to Ljubljana Airport and Private transfer to Ljubljana

Day 2: Ljubljana

  • 9:00-12:30: Ljubljana Walking Tour with the Jewish Quarter, Baroque, Seccesionist and Modern Architecture and Ljubljana Castle
  • Free Afternoon for lunch (we recommend Julija, Valvasor or Slovenska Hisa)
  • Evening Wine tasting and Dinner at Restavracija Strelec

Day 3: Ljubljana – Velika Planina – Kamnik – Bohinj

  • Pick up rental car
  • Visit of Velika Planina (you can also have there a traditional lunch) and later on Kamnik
  • Depending on your time of arrival,  visit Alpine Dairy Museum, hike the Mostnica gorge & Voje Valley, or take a walk around the lake.

Day 4: Bohinj – Bled – Bohinj

  • 09:00 – 12:00: Vintgar Gorge. A boardwalk hike through a dramatic canyon carved by the Radovna River.
  • 12:00 – 15:00: Lake Bled. Visit Bled Castle for the view, take a Pletna boat to the island, and try the famous Kremsnita (cream cake).
  • After Lunch (possibly at Bled Castle?) Hiking Mala Osojnica. A steep 1-hour hike for the most iconic aerial view of Lake Bled.

Day 5: Bohinj – Soca River Valley

  • 09:00 – 13:00: Hiking the Mostnica Gorge & Voje Valley. An easy, stunning hike past “Elephant Rock” to a waterfall.
  • 13:00 – 14:00: Drive to the Alpine Dairy Museum in Stara Fuzina to learn about the 1,000-year history of alpine farming.
  • In the Afternoon: Vogel Cable Car. Ride to 1,535m for panoramic views of Mt. Triglav.
  • 18:00 Departure for Soca River Valley
  • 20:00 Arrival to Hisa Franko and dinner (overnight there for 1 night)

Day 6: Soca River Valley 

(various possibilities – though, Vršič Pass and Russian Chapel are a bit far)

  • Visit of Tolmin Gorges (instead of Great Soča Gorges)
  • Visit of Kozjak Waterfall
  • Walk of Peace and Kolovrat Open-Air Museum (car also be reached by car)
  • Kobarid Museum and Italian Charnel House

Day 7: Soca River Valley – Slovenian Coast

  • Visit of Lipica Stud Farm
  • Visit of the Slovenian Coast – Piran, Koper, Izola … many possiblities!

Day 8: Slovenian Coast – Postojna Cave – Ljubljana

  • 10:00 Visit of Postojna Cave (aproximately 2 hours)
  • Time for lunch and Visit of Predjama Castle (1 hour is more than enough – it’s small, but interesting)
  • Hike trip of Rakov Skocjan (aproximately  2-2,5 hours)

Day 9: Ljubljana – Maribor – Ptuj – Ljubljana

  • 8:00 trip to the region of Styria (Eastern Slovenia)
  • 10:30 Arrival to Maribor and Visit
  • 12:30 Old Vine House with Wine Tasting
  • 13:30 Departure for Ptuj and Visit
  • Before returning to Ljubljana, dinner (maybe Gostilna Ribic)

This itinerary can also be inverted for this day, first visiting Ptuj and then Maribor)

Day 10: End of Trip

  • Return car rental and departure from Ljubljana Airport
