This 7-day Jewish Heritage Tour of Portugal offers a meaningful journey through the country’s rich Sephardic history.
Starting in Lisbon, travelers explore the city’s Jewish Quarter, the historic Shaaré Tikvah Synagogue, and sites tied to the Inquisition. A day trip to Sintra and Belém highlights the role of Jewish scientists during Portugal’s Age of Discoveries. The journey continues to Tomar to visit its 15th-century synagogue and the Abraham Zacuto Museum, then to Coimbra for a look at Jewish academic contributions. In Belmonte, home to a unique Crypto-Jewish community, visitors explore the synagogue, Jewish Museum, and experience Shabbat traditions. Optional excursions include a visit to Sortelha, a preserved medieval village.
