Krakow 7 day itinerary
A Jewish Heritage Krakow Tour reveals one of the most important centers of Jewish life in Eastern Europe—Krakow, known as Kroke in Yiddish. Before World War II, the city was home to more than 65,000 Jews, making it one of Poland’s largest and most vibrant Jewish communities. The historic district of Kazimierz, Krakow’s Jewish quarter, flourished as a renowned center of scholarship and religious life. Here lived distinguished rabbis, including Rabbi Moses Isserles (Remuh), whose synagogue and tomb continue to draw Jewish visitors from around the world. Beyond Kazimierz, Orthodox shtetls thrived north of the city, while Chassidic traditions shaped communities to the east.
Just outside the city lies Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp, where more than one million people were murdered. Despite the devastation of World War II, Krakow preserves many powerful sites of memory—well-preserved synagogues, cemeteries, ghetto remains, Schindler-related locations, and important educational memorials.
