Amsterdam Jewish Heritage Cruise Excursion – Private Full-Day Tour

Tour Duration: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Private, fully customizable Jewish heritage tour in Amsterdam. Includes guided walking tour, kosher-friendly lunch, canal cruise, and Anne Frank House visit.

Morning – Explore Amsterdam’s Historic Jewish Quarter

Meet your expert Jewish heritage guide directly at the cruise pier at 8:30 AM. Begin your day with a guided walking tour through the historic Jewish Quarter of Amsterdam, where Jewish life once thrived before World War II.

You'll explore both the Sephardic and Ashkenazi synagogues, the former heart of Jewish Amsterdam. Today, the vibrant Jewish community is centered in southern Amsterdam and the suburb of Amstelveen, home to kosher restaurants, Jewish schools, synagogues, and community centers.

Visit the Portuguese Synagogue and Etz Chaim Library

A highlight of the tour is the Portuguese Synagogue (Snoge), a magnificent 17th-century synagogue still in active use today by the Portuguese Israelite Community (PIG). Described by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as one of the most beautiful synagogues in the world, it retains its authentic architecture and atmosphere.

Within the synagogue complex is the Etz Chaim Library, a treasure trove of over 30,000 volumes and rare manuscripts, showcasing Amsterdam’s central role in the 17th-century Jewish world and free press.

Jewish Historical Museum & Spinoza’s Legacy

Next, visit the Jewish Historical Museum, located within four restored Ashkenazi synagogues. The museum displays Jewish religious artifacts, paintings, and multimedia exhibits that chronicle Jewish life and culture in Amsterdam.

Special exhibits feature Jewish philosophers and artists, including Baruch Spinoza, one of Amsterdam’s most famous Jewish figures. Learn about his excommunication in 1656 and visit the site of his former home, now marked with a commemorative statue.

Explore exhibits on Jewish entrepreneurship, including the legacy of major Dutch-Jewish businesses like Bijenkorf and HEMA, which continue to thrive today.

Hollandse Schouwburg Holocaust Memorial

Your journey continues to the Hollandse Schouwburg (Dutch Theatre), the former Nazi deportation center during World War II. Today, it serves as the Dutch Holocaust Memorial, where the names of 104,000 Dutch Jewish victims are engraved on the Remembrance Wall. An eternal flame honors their memory. Commemorative ceremonies are held here each year on Yom Hashoa and May 4, the National Holocaust Memorial Day.

Lunch & Afternoon Canal Cruise

Enjoy a kosher-friendly vegetarian lunch with drinks included. After lunch, unwind on a scenic canal cruise, a unique way to see the city from its historic waterways.

Anne Frank House – A Story That Changed the World

The final stop of your tour is a guided visit to the Anne Frank House, where Anne and her family hid during the Nazi occupation. This powerful museum preserves the Secret Annex (Achterhuis) and features exhibitions on the Holocaust, human rights, and discrimination.

Return to Ship – 4:00 PM

The tour concludes with a return to your ship around 4:00 PM.
